Radio frequency transponder

A radio frequency transponder, or RF transponder, is a component of automatic identification systems that sends a radio signal containing information to a RF reader. Passive devices are commercially available that will encode and transmit information back to a computer system when in the proximity of the RF transponder.^[1]
