Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is a government regulatory body and a subcomponent of the Department of Transportation. PHMSA is responsible for regulating and monitoring any and all transport of hazardous materials using any means of transportation, including the nation's pipelines.
History
PHMSA was created under the Norman Y. Mineta Research and Special Programs Improvement Act of 2004, which was signed into law by President George W. Bush on November 20, 2004.[1]
