A hazardous material, commonly referred to as hazmat, is any item or agent (biological, chemical or physical) that has the potential to cause harm to humans, animals or the environment, either by itself or through interaction with other factors.[1] The transport of hazardous materials is regulated by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, an agency of DOT.
